kageotogi: (right here)
I had jury duty (for the first time!) yesterday, which was... Well, I have nothing really to report on that one. They didn't call any jurors until 2:45, and then I sat in a court room for an hour and a half while they asked questions and called people up for state/defense approval, ended up not being called (the last alternate was two numbers ahead of me, so it was close), and then went home. So everything through 2:45 was boring, then it was vaguely interesting, and then I left and spent my $15 on a train ticket and an iced latte. Because I'm classy.

Of course, my city is famous for calling people once every year, so I suppose I'll be up again next summer. Maybe it'll be more interesting next year.

The hard part is catching up on all the work I missed yesterday. My email inbox doubled in size between when I left Wednesday night and when I got to work this morning, and I don't even know where to start. Super crazy. Do I always get this many emails over the course of the day, or was yesterday just super productive for a lot of people? Argh.

At least it's nearly the weekend. If I need to, I can take my laptop home with me and catch up tomorrow morning or something. It might be a good idea.
kageotogi: (cherry)
Okay, because I apparently have nothing worthwhile to say... Here's a question meme.

Comment with "Come at me, bro," and:
- I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
- Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
- Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

These questions are courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] lawless523.

I answered questions! )
kageotogi: (talking to a chimp)
I have about five outstanding fic prompts out there right now, and they've been out there for quite a while. I haven't forgotten. I know I need to do it. I just... haven't.

So why the delay? Well, it isn't so much a lack of inspiration or time (although I'm sure both play a factor) so much as it is a general lack of motivation. In general, I just haven't been writing, to the point that when I do write, the words don't flow and everything winds up as crap. It's a problem, and I intend to change it. I'm going to put myself on a schedule (I hate schedules) and make myself wake up early and all that crap that the handbooks and the internets say you should do but that I not-so-secretly super hate.

On a side note, I kind of get the feeling that "retiring" from writing fanfic hurt me more in the long run than it helped me; rather than using the time I spent fic-writing on original stuff, I just used that time to do not-writing things.

Whatever.

Anyway, I'm setting some goals. Below are the five fic prompts that are left outstanding. I'm hoping to knock out one of these a week (I had drafts of all five before, but trashed them all and started over and trashed them again at least three or four times), and if I have these five done by the end of June I'll be a happy camper... and may take more prompts. Or not. We'll see.

Seriously. He is. )

Clumsy!Kitteh was perfectly fine when I left this morning, and meanwhile I'm functioning exclusively on four hours sleep and as much junk food as I can stuff in my face.
kageotogi: (a nice murder)
Okay, so [livejournal.com profile] photoash did this and it was really fun to read and because I haven't updated this journal in, like, twenty years (slight exaggeration?) I decided I was going to do it, too. So there.

Answering questions is easier than thinking of something original to say. )
kageotogi: (more smut)
If you're keeping up with 25 at 25, you know that so far this year I've accomplished next to nothing, because I am awesome like that. Apparently being awesome also includes never updating journals or Facebooks or whatever to let people know I am, in fact, alive.

So news flash, guys: I'm alive. Just not really doing anything worth talking about.

...okay, just so this entry isn't completely useless. THE FIRST TWO PEOPLE TO COMMENT WITH A PROMPT GET FIC never mind that I have two pending prompts still waiting for me. I WILL EVEN WRITE SMUT FOR A CHANGE, JUST BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT. GO!
kageotogi: (lucky seven)
Happy New Year, LJers! No matter what you thought of 2010, I hope 2011 finds you well.

I didn't make any real resolutions last year, but this year I'm going to challenge myself a little. A friend had the idea that, since we were both turning twenty-five (me this past December, her this coming week) we should accomplish twenty-five things in 2011 and chronicle them. So if you're into that sort of thing and/or want to keep me honest, check out 25 at 25. My list is under (obviously) "Catherine's List", and I'll be posting updates there periodically. If I don't forget.

I will probably forget.

In line with this, I still have two outstanding fic prompts, both Gravi, that I intended to finish before the end of 2010 but ended up not quite managing. That being said, I would really like to have them both finished and posted within the week so that I can go forward in 2011 with more or less a fresh start. So keep a lookout, perhaps? I don't know if I can do it, but I'm certainly going to try!
kageotogi: (point and shoot)
...still freaking out about this writing thing. Now I have a kitten lying across my chest, though, so that's fun. He's happy, at least. If I could solve the writing dilemma, my night would be made.

So here's what I'm going to do.

Comment with a brief, brief prompt, and I'll write anything from three sentences to three paragraphs of story in reply. It's not quite fiction or anything, but maybe it'll jumpstart my brain. (And if this doesn't work, guys, I'm just going to sulk for, like, a week.) No promises that it'll be good, but I'll do these until either (a) my brain kicks into gear or (b) I go to bed.

Prompt, my pretties, prompt! Oh, and feel free to tell your friends. I don't care. The more, the better!
kageotogi: (sexy lady)
Guuuuuuys I haven't written jack-all since November ended. Like, not a word. At least, not a creative word. I've had spouts of uncreativity before, but we're now in the middle of December and I haven't written in forever and ohmigoodness what if I never write again?

Fret.

I have the day off work tomorrow (yay!) and, among a myriad of other things I need to do tomorrow, I'm going to get my hair chopped off. I don't have a clue what my hair will look like when it's all over, since I'm pretty much just going to let my darling stylist do whatever he wants -- and he's a genius, so I'm not worried -- but I do have some nervousness about the whole process. My hair goes through so many awkward stages, and I don't cut it very often. At the same time, I'd really like a change. So... we'll see. And if it's amazing, there will be pictures.

Because yeah, I'm like that.

Oh, and don't forget to sign up for a holiday card!
kageotogi: (laundry day)
For those not in the know (most of you are in the know), I send out holiday cards every year, and have since -- I think -- 2006. So four years of holiday cards! Might as well go for a fifth. I'm a little late this year -- whoops! -- but whatever. It'll be a fast turnaround.

My basic rule is that I'll send a card to anyone who (1) sends me one or (2) fills out the poll. Other than that, I'm pretty low-key about it. And since I'm so late, I'm only giving everyone a little over a week (do you like how tardiness on my part requires urgency on your part? It's just like the corporate world!). I'm going to start writing cards on December 18, so if you want a card you should fill out this poll before then. Otherwise, I make no promises.

[Poll #1654778]

All results are viewable only to me. If you're not comfortable filling out the poll, feel free to send me a private message or email, no problem. If you have posted a card poll or need my address for other nefarious reasons, drop me a comment and I'll take care of it.
kageotogi: (writer's life)

NaNoWriMo is aaaaaall done, and with days to spare.

Time to get back to my real stuff now, I guess. Erk. Back to being an uninspired mess. (I maintain that the best thing about NaNoWriMo is that I have no choice but to push through the hard parts. I have a lot of trouble making myself do that when I write for real.)
kageotogi: (warm fuzzies)
I spent all last week in San Diego (half for work, half for fun), and as glad as I am to be back, I kind of miss it. Or, anyway, I miss the life I lived while I was there. I walked every morning and I rented a bike (it's true: you never forget!) and I ate a crap-load of Mexican food (my favorite!) and guys, it was great. But I'm back now, and sloooowly getting back into things.

I think I need to find my old bike and pull it out of storage. There has to be some place in the city where I can bike and not, say, get hit by a car or hassled by a drug lord. I love Baltimore.

And the NaNoWriMo update!

Current word count: 45,080
Tomorrow's word goal: 47,000

I'd like to finish my project by the end of the weekend, and then have Monday and Tuesday to remind myself of my other projects and finish those in the first week of December. Fingers crossed!

Is this post coherent? I suspect it is not.
kageotogi: (office naptime)
My office is either located on the ice planet of Hoth or they forgot to turn on the heat this week. And let me tell you, ladies and gents, that the shivering makes it really, really hard to get work done. Rest assured, however, that I am doing my best nonetheless! That's totally why I'm on LiveJournal instead of, you know, submitting forms to the Library of Congress or checking page proof or, y'know, doing the other million things I need to get done today.

Because yes, I'm blaming it on the cold.

Brrr.

Also, the NaNoWriMo update...

Current word count: ~13,600
Today's word goal: 17,000
kageotogi: (talking to a chimp)
Things I did today instead of writing my NaNoWriMo novel:
  • Slept until eleven-thirty
  • Called my mother -- twice!
  • Ate cake unnecessarily
  • Watched free movies on Comcast On Demand
  • Checked my email several times
  • Painted my nails
  • Took a nap
  • Took another nap
  • Checked (and answered) my work email
  • Watched back-to-back-to-back reruns of The Nanny
Today's word goal: 3,000
Today's final word count: 2,078
Tomorrow's word goal: 5,000
kageotogi: (teapot)
Someone left free-for-all honey in our break room at work, which is fabulous because I love honey in my tea and zomg honey. It is also good because I think I'm coming down with my annual cold (I get maybe one or two a year, so I guess I can't really complain) and tea with honey totally makes that better. Because, um, zomg honey is magic.

I wish there was a honey produced under the brand 'zomg'. I would buy that and keep it in my purse for all sorts of nefarious deeds. But mostly to put in my tea.

(Moral of the story: I like honey.)

Today is Friday, and for me it is a half-day Friday -- in part because I have worked SO VERY HARD this month to-date and in part because my car just got summoned for a safety recall, so I'm taking it to the dealership to get that fixed up (apparently I need that part to, y'know, steer my car, and it would be a very bad thing if it broke). Darling coworker/friend A is accompanying me and helping me kill some time between when I drop off my car and when I pick it up, so I'm expecting a fabulous afternoon. And also a very busy weekend, because Sunday is pretty literally the last mostly-free day I have between now and November 28. You suck, schedule.

Speaking of time management, I haven't put up a to-do list in a while. So... I guess it's time to break that streak. Aren't you lucky?

This weekend, I will... )
kageotogi: (that's how she became)
Babeh Kitteh had another seizure yesterday morning around five, but it's the first one he's had since we increased his medication back in late June, so that's something. Anyway, I called the vet (as I'm supposed to) to let them know, and then I went to work. When I got back, there was a message on my machine asking if I could bring Babeh Kitteh in to be weighed. A side-effect of phenobarbital is increased appetite, so they wanted to make sure he hadn't gained weight -- which could, logically, effect his medicine.

Long story short, Babeh Kitteh is the vet tech's golden boy, and he is better at maintaining his weight (10.4 lbs) than anyone else I know. And his meds are staying the same (for now).

I probably have more to say, but I can't think of anything. Honestly, I'm just exhausted. For no reason, really. I slept fine last night (and I even got back to sleep yesterday night, too, after Gus's seizure!) and I didn't stay up much later than usual, but I still had an incredibly difficult time dragging myself out of bed. I mean, difficult to the point where I considered calling in to work, which I never, ever do. My eyes actually ache from being open.

Maybe I'll duck out early today, go home, and take a nap. Y'know. Because there's nothing more important I could possibly be doing with my time. ;)
kageotogi: (sexy stars)
So back on September 15, when I still had a mess of prompts left to do, I said I was going to finish one a day, giving me an end date of September 26. How did I do?

Weeeeell...

Okay, so of the twelve prompts I had to write, I finished all but three. And I still intend to get them done. Just... not this weekend, because this weekend is going to be busy-busy. But I'm going to set 10/10 as a goal. October 10. That'll be the day everything is finished and I can finally concentrate on other things.

Like what I'm going to write for NaNoWriMo this year. So far all I know is that it's probably going to involve zombies, if only because I've already written about zombies two Novembers in a row, and they're still in my brain.

But not literally. Because that would be bad. For my brains. And my general well-being.
kageotogi: (dance dance)
[livejournal.com profile] boobiequeen posted this, and I just couldn't resist. Comment on this entry and I'll give you a letter. Then find ten songs you love that begin with that letter and share them with the class.

She gave me the letter 'M'. )

Loserdom!

Sep. 15th, 2010 11:12 am
kageotogi: (writer's life)
Okay, guys, I'll confess. I'm a loser. Out of all twelve prompts I listed in this post, I finished a grand total of one in the time span I allotted myself. One. Out of twelve.

However, I insist on having the chance to redeem myself. Starting tomorrow (not today; I'm busy. And if I have the time, I'd like to give myself a head start. Sorry, guys. I cheat like crazy.), I'm going to write -- and finish -- one a day, until I've finished them all. So, by that logic, I should be done on September 26. Logically.

Here goes!

Prompts Completed: 10/12

kageotogi: (whale speak)
So I've a number of fic prompts to write from this post over a year ago and two outstanding from more recent posts. And because I'm like that, I'm just going to put them all in one place... and get as many of them as I can done within a week. I'm sorting them by fandom, but they're really in no particular order. Where possible, I included links to the original comment.

Hold me to this, okay?
