kageotogi: (start)
This is Otakon weekend, so everything everywhere outside my work building has exploded with convention-goers. Some coworkers and I ate lunch out just so we could sit around and watch people parade about in costumes. It was pretty fantabulous. Still, I'm glad I'm not going this year; it looked crazy crowded, and I'm not into that. That, and I can't remember the last time I actively pursued an anime or manga series of any kind. Hrm.

Anyway.

[livejournal.com profile] photoash is up here for Otakon, and is staying with me this weekend (she had a panel this afternoon -- I hope everyone attending the convention this year also stopped by the panel! I'm sure it was marvelous). It's been wonderful so far, and I'm so glad I get to see her again. She also occasionally looks over at me and tells me to write masturbatory fic, at which point I break into tears and have tiny mental breakdowns in the corner. (Note: this has not actually happened yet.) Whether or not I will actually submit to her demands is yet to be determined; if I do, I'm sure she will be the first to know. And all y'all will be right after her. (You feeling lucky, punks?) This entire post is proof that I shouldn't drink more than one cup of coffee a day.

I have a short to-do list for this weekend. Ready? I know you're ready. I can tell. Here goes:

[ ] Finish le fic for [livejournal.com profile] lady_absynthe.
[ ] Write a fic for [livejournal.com profile] photoash.
[x] Work on The Z-Word.
[ ] Edit a chapter of Aristeia.
[x] Read (and finish) the book club book.
[x] If you don't do it at work, bring your laptop home and finish logging. Also, compare new edition pictures to old edition pictures, because nothing says "It's the weekend!" like skin disease and sexually transmitted infections.
[x] Hang out with [livejournal.com profile] photoash. Yay!
[ ] And, I don't know, make cookies or something.

Edit: August 2, 2010: Jiminy Christmas, none of these things happened. Argh fail fail fail.

*groan* Come on, live journal. Not again. I'm not sure my wank-o-meter can take another go around.

The rest of this post is the second part of my Otakon report

In other news, I have Otakon pictures, resized and ready for posting at last! First up are some pictures I drew myself (I know, that's so exciting) while waiting with [livejournal.com profile] tir_synni in line for Vic Mignogna. They're thrilling.

I drew them myself! )

Immediately after being booted out of the Vic-line, we went over to wait in the mob for Tomokazu Seki. While there, I drew a picture of Sousuke Sagara... which I later had him sign (I would have gone for a Gravitation picture, but they have no distinguishing features and, well, no). He laughed, and I was pleased for that. ^^ Also, a girl behind wanted a picture of Seki but didn't have a camera of her own, so [livejournal.com profile] pereppi let us commandeer her camera while we snapped one -- it's second under the cut.

Seki pictures! )

When we left Otakon to meet [livejournal.com profile] domacatrix at Power Plant Live, the fun didn't stop. I neglected to scan Joan's picture (since that would really require more of a story from her; I loved it, but I don't think I could convey it properly), but Lauren stole my notebook long enough to draw the picture-below-the-cut, which was actually a running joke throughout the weekend (because I was driving them around).

All y'allz... )

I think that was it for Friday, but Saturday was filled of wonderful cosplayers, many of whom are pictured behind the cut. Because I know you love it.

Oh, the cosplay! )

For those wondering, I didn't include any Gravitation cosplayers because (1) I wasn't impressed with the vast majority of them and (2) the ones I did like didn't stay in one place long enough. There was a banana!Shuichi running around (and who was in the Murakami Q&A), but I wasn't going to tackle a piece of fruit for the sake of a picture, so, yeah. No Gravitation characters (although I did keep seeing a great leather!Tohma in the California Tortilla that Friday night...).

To close this picture-heavy con report, I'll bring in the ultimate con-swag -- the autograph I got from Maki Murakami on Sunday. She laughed at my choice in picture, which made me very happy, and we (she, her translator, and I) agreed it was a good choice in picture. I just love it because it's my favorite, but I definitely thought about finding one of her ghost!portraits for signature instead. I'm glad I didn't.

He's a genius! )

I don't think that needs an explanation.

...I completely wrote this post instead of getting ready for work. ARGH. I hope I'm not late.
kageotogi: (good student [kageotogi])
Good first, because I'm like that. To start, Otakon was a blast!

Friday at Otakon (autographs and AMVs) )

Saturday (Maki Murakami, Dealers Room, the Alley, Hooters, Karin, and Kashi Mashi) )

Sunday at Otakon (MAKI MURAKAMI'S AUTOGRAPH OMG, Dealer's Room) )

Anyway, I left Otakon early. I was supposed to see the new Harry Potter movie with the rest of my family (it's some sort of tradition with us), and I was running late. I called the 'rents to let them know, they told me it was fine, and I headed home.

About twenty minutes after I called, my aunt called the house. Turns out my cousin (her youngest son) was killed in a car accident. He was twenty (my brother's age). Right now that's all I know (his mother was on her way back from New York, and had only received the alert from the police a little while before), but yeah. Jebus. I walked into my house, sat down, and was told there was bad news.

Needless to say, Harry Potter was then out of the question.

So that's my bad news. I didn't know this cousin all that well. He and my brother used to be best friends growing up, but they grew apart several years ago and, after that, I only saw him two or three times a year, if that. Still, he was my cousin (my younger cousin), and... Well, I'll miss him. I'm not sure the news has really sunk in yet. So. Um. Yeah.

Ficcage, pictures, and autograph scans to follow at some point. We're having family moments.

The second part of my Otakon report (with pictures) is here.
kageotogi: (omgwtf? [kageotogi])
So A. and I went to California Tortilla for lunch, which is right down the street. On the way back, as we were passing the convention center, I happened to glance over and what do I see? A very LOOOOOONG line of people sitting outside. Assuming they're Otakon-goers, my only guess is that they're camping out for registration pick-up (tonight at five). Considering it's only one o'clock now and the line stretched a block or so, I'm thinking they're going to be waiting for a long while.

That doesn't bode well for me either, come to think of it. Hm. Maybe I'll catch some dinner and then get in the line; at least that way I'll be fully hydrated.

It can't be much worse than when I went to pick up my registration last year. That was awful.

In other news, this joke made me snerk. Love it like I do.
kageotogi: (nothing ever happens [snitched])
I saw these shoes while I was shopping with a friend two weeks ago, but the pair they had there was a size five (...and it wasn't a pair; they only had the one shoe). Now that I've found them online, I sort of want them. Then again, I'm also very hesitant to buy shoes online -- if they suck, after all, I'm sort of screwed. Ugh.

My car has returned! We picked it up from the shop on Tuesday, so it's back in my possession and working fine. All of my electronic settings (the seat, radio, clock, etcetera) were messed up, but those didn't take long to fix and, really, those are only minor things. I am out a few hundred dollars, though, so boo. It's nice to have my car back, though.

Otakon is this weekend! The con officially opens tomorrow at nine am, but I won't be there until after work (so four or five-ish, most likely), and continues through Sunday. It'll be good times~ Today I'll be meeting [livejournal.com profile] vetes3 and [livejournal.com profile] vetesgirl et al so we can pick up our registration... and so I can see them. ^_^ We have a lot of catching up to do! It's been a year since I saw them last!

Also, I will be taking [livejournal.com profile] tir_synni home with me. She doesn't have a choice in the matter, but considering she asked me about it before I threatened to kidnap her, I don't think she'll mind. I'll also be hijacking [livejournal.com profile] pereppi at some point, because it's easier for all of us if I can save us all a stop on the way to Baltimore, and [livejournal.com profile] photoash volunteered for being hijacked on Saturday. Yikes. I'm turning into a hijacking fiend.

I'm also stuck in the phone meeting that never ends. UGH. I need to get myself some coffee. (And considering that I only have to be around to listen to the bits near the end, I could probably do that. *ponderponder*)
kageotogi: (munch! [kageotogi])
[livejournal.com profile] kloos411 and I went to look at an apartment this afternoon during our lunch break. Read all about it... )

Long story short, we'll see. We're planning to look at several other places as well, of course, and will have to take everything in stride.

Other than that? Um. Let's see. I'm looking forward to Otakon next week, especially because I'll be seeing Sam, Steve, and Jenny~! Also, I will be meeting [livejournal.com profile] photoash, who has ingratiated herself to me and thus been granted special sleeping privileges. Also, Maki Murakami will be there, and while I'm not certain I actually want to join the throng of screaming fangirl I do think it would be interesting to see. That's something I'm debating, so we'll see how that goes.

I have soup. Yum, soup.

Oh! The office smelled disgusting today. It seems to be better now, although that could be either because (a) I got used to it or (b) whatever was wrong was fixed in my absence. Either way, huzzah.

And how.

I have registered for Otakon, made sure it was fine that [livejournal.com profile] tir_synni crashed at my house with her kitty (it was), and checked the convention schedule against that of the local baseball team (they're going to be out of town, which means I'll have discounted parking for the convention!). That's all set. [livejournal.com profile] pereppi, are you still planning to go? [livejournal.com profile] vetes3? I know [livejournal.com profile] domacatrix isn't planning to come at this point (sad) but [livejournal.com profile] fish_follower might show his stupid face (!), so there are downs and ups -- respectively. ^_~ Is anyone else on the f-list planning to go? If yes, let me know; maybe we can meet up for a few hours. Could be fun.

Mmm. Today at work was... Haha. Um. Well, I got a little done. Most of the day was probably spent helping O. with a homework project, looking for a Series Editor Agreement (which I found, with D.'s help -- yay!), and convincing O. that yes, she could show up to L.'s goodbye party even though she hadn't RSVP'd. I'll pay for it tomorrow, I'm sure, but whatever. Nonetheless, I'm still very tired. Ugh.

I want a sno-cone. Maybe I'll head that way later on tonight, if I'm still feeling the sno-cone urge this evening.

Right. Er. I really just wanted to post the Otakon update. I'm such a slacker. ^^

Le fic.

kageotogi: (writer's life [kageotogi])
While we waited in the registration line at Otakon on Friday, [livejournal.com profile] tir_synni and I started passing a notepad back and forth with the beginnings of an FMA fic, which we continued during any long wait over the next two days. It's still not finished, so I'm posting it here so we can continue to pass it back and forth until it is finished. If anyone would like to read it, please keep in mind that is currently a Work In Progress, and that it is intended for pseudo-adults, as there is a great deal of seXXXing. Also, I can't speak for Sam, but I know this is the first collaboration fic I've done in mhmhmhm long, and definitely my first threesome. Foursome. Whatever this turned out -- or will turn out -- to be. ^^

FMA Fic-In-Progress, by Sam and Ren )

Your turn, Sam!
kageotogi: (tenth kingdom [kageotogi])
Woo! A vacation in Maine and two days at Otakon, and I'm beat. ^_^ Anyway, I'm devoting this post to my vacation and con reports. Then I have to make another post so I can continue swapping fic with Sam. (You'll see.)

First things first!

The Vacation: July 23 )

The Vacation: July 24 )

The Vacation: July 25 )

The Vacation: July 26 )

The Vacation: July 27 )

The Vacation: July 28 )

The Vacation: July 29 )

The Vacation: July 30 )

The Vacation: July 31 )

The Vacation: August 1 )

The Vacation: August 2 )

The Vacation: August 3 )

That was the vacation. (If anyone actually read through all that, I applaud you. Damn. It was a hassle having to type it all up, much less to read it.) My Otakon report won't be that much more interesting, but here it is.

Otakon, Day One )

Otakon, Day Two )

Anyway, after the interrupted movie, we headed to our cars and drove back. Sam spent the night, and since we didn't go to Otakon today, that was the end. So... Swag list!

Swag and other items. )

The cosplayers were decent. There were a ton of Naruto, a fair amount of FMA (mostly sins), and various others. I saw only a few Gravitation cosplayers, to my surprise, but most of the ones I saw consisted of Tohma, Shuichi, and K. I saw one Hiro and (I think) an Eiri. They were decent. Um. Yesh. Sam and I have decided to try and do a cosplay of our own next year. She wants to be Ed (FMA) and thinks we'll need a Ling (also FMA, manga!verse). I volunteered to be Ling -- Greed!Ling, if possible -- and to ridicule her on her height whenever possible. This will work, too, as she is an inch and a half shorter than me. *heart*

...You know, on second thought? The fic thing can wait until tomorrow. I'm getting tired.

OTAKON.

...

Despite what the icon says, THIS IS NOT CATHY. This is JOAN.

OTAKON PEOPLE!

*amused* Now it's Cathy. The above is apparently old, as Joan started to hijack my journal but decided against it at the last minute. However, it is still applicable.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO OTAKON AND WOULD LIKE TO MEET UP TOMORROW, PLEASE READ THIS!

Joan has made plans because I'm a slacker, so here's the plan. I'll be leaving from my house with my wonderful Scooby Gang around 8:30 and will arrive at Otakon at approximately 9:30. We are planning to have lunch at 1:00 at the Easy Wok on Light Street. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US, FEEL FREE! I will have my cell phone with me and (presumably) turned on. I will post my cell number in a screened post as soon as I've finished with this one. If you are planning to join us, call me tomorrow so we can work out a plan!

Oh, and I'm back from Maine. *waves* Hi, everyone!
kageotogi: (shake chichiri [resized by kageotogi])

Title: My Heart Goes Boom
Artist: French Affair
Album: I Like That
Comments: This was one of the many songs [livejournal.com profile] noueux gave me as a graduation gift. (THANK YOU, ABBY!) It's different, yes, but wonderfully catchy and easy to sing to. ^_~ Give it a listen.

The Song

My family and I are leaving for Maine early tomorrow morning. Very early tomorrow morning. This means I should go to bed early and, you know, be prepared for a nice long day in the car with my family, but pfft. We'll see about that. Um. Let's see... So, yes! I'll be gone from tomorrow until August 3rd. I think that's a Thursday. Then, after that, is Otakon weekend! I'm looking forward to that very much. ^_~

OTAKON PEOPLE!

How does a late lunch on Friday, August 4th sound? We'll figure out a place and stuff soon, but just count on that for now, okay? Danke!
kageotogi: (cherry [kageotogi])
I phail. Thus, a meme stolen from [livejournal.com profile] wicked_pistil.

1. Go pick a line or two from any of my fics (which can be best found here).

2. I'll respond with what story I think it is. And? I won't cheat. Promise.

3. If you stump me, I'll write you a drabble. Any fandom (with which I'm familiar), any characters, any situation, anything of your choice, and I'll add it to the list. ^^

This reminds me, of course, that I also owe commentary. And there's beta work to be done. Hmhmhm. I'll get to it shortly, promise.

Right, in other news... An Otakon poll!
