Fact: I have very long hair. The last time I measured it, it was well over a foot long. That was over a year ago.

Fact: The very long hair is driving me crazy. I like having long hair, but hair this long just gets in the way. And I'm sick of it.

Fact: Locks for Love (♥) accepts hair donations of at least ten inches. I have well over ten inches of hair, and I'd be more than willing to part with it.

Fact: Locks for Love (♥) does not accept hair that has been bleached. Coloured hair is fine, but bleaching apparently messes things up. Yes, this research is totally how I spent my lunch break.

Fact: The first 8-10 inches of my hair is bleached. Ten inches above that would give me a very short pixie-ish cut.

Sad fact: I will not be donating my hair to Locks for Love (♥). However, I will be getting my hair cut (I hope) in the near future. Perhaps when I get my hair cut next after that, I will have enough un-bleached hair that I'll feel comfortable donating it. As it is, I am a sad fishie.

Poor fishie.

Hee, I wish I could have donated my hair, which I just completely cut off. Like, beyond pixie-short ^_^

There will be pictures, but right now they are stuck on a digital camera that doesn't have a connector cord handy.

Erm, Locks of Love is considered a shady organization, as they don't use something like 80% of the donations they receive, and sell some donations to commercial wig makers. There was an interesting article about them in the NYT.

Really? Very interesting -- I'll have to check out that article. Thanks! I'm considerably less bummed about that now.

Locks of Love are Lots of Jerks.

There are plenty of reputable, generous, not-so-famous hair donation places, however.

That's the idea I'm getting... I'll look around and see what other places there are, then see about donating my mass of hair.

If you want a salon/stylist rec, I have one place I adore down here that I could refer you to. :)

I wouldn't turn it down. I have someone back in my parents' area, but her daughter is getting married, so she's bogged down with wedding plans. Plus, I should really find someone in the city. >_> What's the pricing? Where is it?

Neal's Salon on Park Ave., just a couple blocks up from me. A cut is around $40 (plus they have a new customer coupon on their webpage, which I didn't know about then, but you could save $10). I had Ed work on my hair the last time I had a cut, and it was glorious. He did exactly what I wanted and was really gentle and didn't try to force any wacky ideas on me. (I've had bad luck with that in the past, ick!)

I met Neal, too, and he seemed great as well, so perhaps if you couldn't get Ed, Neal would be a good option.

Sounds fabulous. I could visit you and get my hair done! And you could come with me (so I don't get lost -- you know me) and we'd have a super-happy fun time. Then we'll cry over the lack of free ice cream (!), be shocked over my sudden lack of hair, and do something fun. Like flute duets. Or writing. Or walking around and having fun.

How does that sound? ^_~

All of that sounds absolutely lovely! Perhaps while you're having an attack of a sudden lack of hair, I could get a deep conditioning treatment or a pedicure or something. We could be all girly and salony. And then do something else fun! Have you been to City Cafe yet? That's always a fun option. :)

I haven't! It sounds like a plan.

We should have a girlie day. Brows, hair, etcetera. It'll be fantastic. And then we'll go look at guys, and you'll have to defer them all to me, since you're taken and whatnot. ^_~

When (before June 18th) might you be free?

Well, how's about (evenings) May 8, 9, 15, 22, 23, 29, 30 or (Saturdays) 3, 17, 24, or 31?

How about May 9? We could go after work, do the girlie prettification stuff, and then catch dinner. Any idea what the weather is supposed to be like that day?

Me too! :D I'll put it on the calendar.

They're fine with walk-ins, right?

From: [identity profile] thstlenshmrock.livejournal.com
I'm not sure; I think maybe we should make appointments. I've made them just a couple days in advance with no problems, though, if you wanted to wait until next week. :) I know I have to decide what I'm going to have done. I've never had a pedicure... but I also lack many cute summer shoes at the moment *sadness*.

From: [identity profile] kageotogi.livejournal.com
Pedicures are awesome. Seriously.

Sounds like we need to add 'shoe shopping' to our list of girlie things to do that night. ^_~

Appointments are doable. Send me the website when you get the chance so I can check out what all they have available?

I want to grow my hair out...at least to my shoulders, so I can stinking do something with it and avoid the inevitable question from random guys of "Are you a girl?" (Jesus Christ, one kid came up to me a few days ago, called me short, and then said, "Are you a female or male?" I wanted to punch him in the face, seriously.)

But when you do get your hair cut, at least one picture is required...:-P. (Hey, maybe a "before" and "after" thing, you know...;-).)

I refuse to do the 'before'. Jiminy. My hair is a mess. It hasn't been cut forever. :/ The 'after', though... We'll see. I'm trying a new place, so if it's fantastic there are guaranteed pictures.

I dont have time to read all these responses so i dont know if this is redundant but...

number 1. Spell COLORED right. Stop being a fucking Canadian. When did you move here? You were like three or something? Get over it.

number 2. Suck it up. Pixie cuts are cool. Donate that mop son! There are some that need that hair more than you!!!

number 3... uhh I dunno... I hope you get a haircut you like? I'm out of points.

number 4. Nice hair!

Hahahaha...

Number 1: I was eleven-ish. You get over it. :P

Number 2: They are cool. Just not on me. I've done the short hair thing before, and it really just... doesn't work.

Number 3: Haircut!

Number 4: Yours, too!
