NOT WORKSAFE!
In other news, Akuma's fic The Heaven and Hell that is My Disease bothers me on many different levels. It's not that it's badly written -- not at all -- but that the story touches on a subject that falls a little too close to home... and that the information presented Is Wrong. I'd go into detail, but I've already talked about it with
imayb1 and don't really feel like talking about it anymore. Suffice to say, it bothers me. A lot.
I left this review:
Actually...
Despite what the English version of the manga hints at, it's very unlikely that Eiri has multiple personality disorder -- or DID. It's far more likely that he suffers from a condition called Fugue States, which is, in a way, a much lesser form of MPD. (Note: while people with MPD do exprience fugue states, there are other aspects of their disorder that make it different from simply FS.) Fugue states are more closely related to bipolar disorder and, while the person in question does experience lost time like those with MPD, their personality seems to change more as mood swings (FS sufferers do not have alternate personalities -- they simply seem to because of their very violent mood swings). The changes involved with MPD are more often triggered by very stressful situations or when an occasion arises that the core personality cannot handle on his or her own -- perhaps because another personality split off from the core in order to handle a similar situation in the first place.
Also, the "noise" you attribute to Eiri's head. If he was suffering from MPD, he would not be able to hear such voices or noises -- unless he was on one of three drugs which are very controversial and are, in a way, hallucinogens. Those with MPD have often complained of having "tunnel" vision or hearing, in which they can't see or hear everything going on. Also, they most often are not aware of their other personalities -- when they appear, when they are not active, or any of that -- unless it is brought to their attention via some sort of recording device. People with FS, however, sometimes do hear the voices and the noises from which your Eiri complained, although not all the time.
Um. I'm sorry for that, but you've touched on a subject that is very near and dear to my heart.
Other than that little degree of confusion, I liked this fic very much. I liked the way you developed Sosha and her views on Eiri.

Akuma replied, not long after, with this:
To Hawkcloud:
I apologize if this upsets you. I didn't take into account that people might have touched this problem someway in their lives. I'm actually using bits and pieces of information I gathered from a book titled: The Girls He Adored. In which, a docotor and a patient who has murder women and had DID go through therapy. The plot isn't to important right now. but, they mention that the patient can talk with the other alters, so i used that. Um, like i said, i really haven't had too much time to research, i wish i did. And you're right as well, alters can be created from stressful situation which the host cannot handle.
Yes, true, it seems to be fugue (sry, sp?) states are exactly what he has. But, i wanted to up it a bit. I do, though, put my own experience into this. I use 'noise' to characterize just the overall problems honestly. But, it is true that one can never have complete silence. It's painful, suffering, and it does mess with you a bit. the thoughts that will then arise may scare the shit out of you. Fugue states I understand as well... the annoyance and terror of missing parts of your life, the unknowingness of it... it's undescribable actually. I can't find the words to describe it.
Once again, I apologize for any errors made, i try my best. Also, I apologize for whatever is close to you. If i hurt it, stirred it, anything to cause a negative reaction, I apologize for it. Thank you for reading and reviewing though.
I did read the manga, only up to 9 actually. I don't think it puts anything to shame. They're both good, but the manga does have more substance than the anime. Like the anime seemed to be solely focused on Yuki's past and whatnot. The manga seems a bit lighter than the anime, more fun. I also think the manga goes into the characters a bit more. Thanks for the music info.
I hope to continue, I apologize if my information is a bit off, and to anyone who may get a little offended. Thank you for the complement on Sosha, i think it worked out pretty well, though her original form three years ago was a goth highschool girl that was... well, me. hard to imagine, but let's put it this way: not as calm as this new Sosha is. Also, she had brown shoulder length hair, red contacts ears and a tail, but not the point! heh, so yes, she's grown up i guess, although the creator hasn't, but I hope everyone can enjoy the writing even though the situation is odd.

I gave her my name in my review -- Ren. She addressed me as HawkCloud. (My screenname, for those who aren't aware, is spelled with a 'w' -- Hawk Clowd. There's a reason for this, of course.) I am automatically allowed to frown on her. (Go Ren!logic.) Again, this is a topic I discussed (to great length) with
imayb1. The fight has been talked out of me... I don't know if it's the time or the topic, but I'm tired of it. No more talking about this. Yes.
I have been trying to write chapter seven of "Playing House" all day long, but have been able to do nothing at all with it.
slyfox78 has been the most help on that matter thus far. I've also started to wonder why I ask for the opinions of people for whom I have little to no respect. I should stop talking to people via AIM; while the majority of the people I talk to are intelligent, funny, and fantastic, the select few who I can't stand (oftentimes the ones who decide to go all fangirl on me -- and who are usually between the ages of 12-16) are the ones that seem to be on the most often. And, because I get bored easily, I talk back to them. And then I ask them questions when they ask me questions and things get out of hand and then I realize I'm asking them for opinions and ideas when I hate them all. T_T
In other news,
endaemion says I need to stop sending children pr0n. That is all.

if i took ONE THING from stupid Coleman's class it's that MPD is NOT FRICKIN SCHIZOPHRENIA, duh/thankyouverymuch
weird how I didn't hear anything about people confusing those before he said that people often confuse them, but then, all of a sudden, people started confusing the two.
and the pr0n was funny, if pr0norific. and icky.

as for MPD, my experience with knowing a woman who has it is that she is very well aware of her other personalities, including when they act and what they do and say. perhaps it is an unusual case, but... *shrugs*

So far as the woman you know goes, I'm not an expert on MPD, so I don't know how common that is or not. I know that, typically, MPD patients don't know of their other personalities unless they've seen doctors or on medication.
*gigglefit* In other news. I'm on the phone with Kyle, who is being an asshat, and I asked him what he thought about the Eiri-disorder thing. The following is a paraphrased conversation:
Me: So. Eiri and his possible mental disability. What do you think about it?
Kyle: Mental what-ness?
Me: ...
Kyle: Oh. Sorry. I'm tired. Eiri and his mental decapitation, hm?
Me: ...disability
Kyle: Right.
Me: ...so?
Kyle: Do I still get to fuck with his character as much as I want?
Me: Um. I... guess?
Kyle: Then I don't see why I should give a shit. I'll stick him on whatever medications pop into my head and he can have whatever disorders correspond to those medications. Oh. And he's going to drink tea. Lots of tea.
