Soooooooo tired.

Three day weekends are probably my most favoritest weekends. Just saying.

On Saturday, I took the day to myself. I ran some errands, cleaned my house, and then chillaxed on my couch for the rest of the day. It was fantastic. On Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] thstlenshmrock and I mulched the yard (and I coerced her into trying out the Wii Fit) and, later, Lanky came over and we made tomato soup from scratch. Which was delicious, but made my house very, very hot. Afterward, he coerced me into watching Shampoo, which was great in its day, I'm sure, but was pretty boring for us. As happens.

Today, I went hiking with a friend from work. Our plan was to hike a nine-mile loop (we were originally thinking of a longer hike, but opted out of it when we realized it was CRAZY STUPID HOT OUTSIDE) and go home. Instead, we hiked seven miles, lost the trail, spent half an hour looking for the trail, and then gave up and doubled-back, all in all hiking at least fourteen miles. It took about six and a half hours, and by the end we were dying. Our legs were practically numb, our feet were nearly killing us, and we were nursing various aches and pains (my knee, her ankle, etcetera). But it was epic, and we felt like Rocky toward the end of it.

So that's good.

Unrelated, ants have somehow found their way into my house and have decided my cats' food is delicious. I took some preliminary precautions to keep them out, but I think I'm going to have to venture to the store tomorrow to find a way to take care of the problem before the pests get back in. This will probably mean I have to nix my strawberry pie baking plans. Which, really, should just teach me not to make plans. :)

I'm not sure if your preliminary precautions involve this, but I've found that baby powder keeps the ants at bay. I put it on the windowsills where they were coming in, and around our cat's food dish ... sort of like a salt circle or whatever they do in vampire movies :)
Good luck!

I'm glad you survived your hike. Life is what happens while you're making other plans. Or maybe I should quote Robert Burns about the best laid plans of mice and men, but I'm not sure I can manage the Scots dialect.

Ally baked cookies this afternoon for a Young Communists League meeting tomorrow at which the movie Capitalism: A Love Story is being shown, so between that and dinner (baked chicken with barbecue sauce), our kitchen's been hot all afternoon. Thankfully it's cooler now.

OMG that is a long hike - YOU GO GIRL! :) for surviving hehehe :)

And ants :( BOO -- I think Terro works fantastic if they are those small black ants -- it really works but you have to handle the ants crawling around eating it and being there an extra few days :/

I used Terro in my apartment, back in the day, so that was actually the plan. :) It works, so I'm stickin' with it. Hopefully it'll take care of the problem as per usual.

If you can find where they are coming in from the outside you can get the nice terro outdoor traps too that work well :) That helped my problem (i ended up caulking a lot too wherever I saw the bastards coming in!)

Oooh, I've never tried the outdoor traps (the upstairs neighbors, back in the apartment, had dogs, and I didn't want to expose other peoples' animals to potentially uncool stuff). That's a great idea, thank you!

I'm uneasy about caulk. I really don't even know why.
