Before I begin:
I thought this -- a list of general writing mistakes -- was more or less spot-on, so I thought I'd recommend it.
The theory here says that five happy thoughts a day will make you a happier person. Try it!
Anyway.
I took off work today so I could, well, use up some of the vacation days I've accumulated (I still won't be able to use them all by the end of the year, but oh well), and met up with
domacatrix and
whimper. We went to the mall, went generally nuts, hit up a few stores outside of the mall, dined at the local Wendy's (the Hilton of fast food!), and then parted ways (sad). I left for my parent's house, where I was almost immediately bombarded with candies (my mother was making fudge for tomorrow's family party -- yum!) and gifts (they hadn't seen me since my birthday). Um. The fudge was delicious. Oh, and I got presents, yes. >_> I got a universal remote (which I thought was funny), a blender (which I also thought was funny), several books, a DVD of various writers (I'm looking forward to that!), a copy of Sims2: Castaway.
Suffice to say, I took little time in getting full enjoying out of these gifts. I loaded S2: Castaway into the PS2, grabbed a book to read while I waited for some of the scenes to load (and yes, some of the load times were kind of silly), and got to work.
Castaway? Is completely awesome. If you like the Sims or Lost or anything like that, I think I can safely recommend this game. It's different from the regular Sims games in that you actually have a mission -- to get yourself off the island and back to civilization --, and even though it's for the PS2 (a platform that didn't really work for the original Sims2) the gameplay is easy and fun. There are almost as many options as in Sims2 for the PC (perhaps just as many; I didn't explore them too much, I'll admit), and most of the game is very logically set up (except for the fact that [a] you have to identify things like raspberries before your Sim can actually figure out what they are and [b] one of the in-game goals is to make a deadly poison, which may actually have a purpose, although I haven't quite figured out what it might be. Poison arrows, perhaps?).
Oh, and you can talk to chimps. This is more fun than it sounds, because if you can become best friends with one of the chimps, that particular primate will forage stuff for you, and that makes things a little easier.
Anyway. It's nearly two o'clock and I've hardly done anything constructive with my day.
