PreNoWriMo: Day 1/30

Today is the first day of September, and that means it's the first day of our NaNoWriMo test run, which I'm personally referring to as "Omfg What Was I Thinking"-Month. That would be OMFGWTF for short, I think. Or maybe I'll just stick with PreNoWriMo. Anyway, whatever. Let the games begin!
Today's Goal:

PreNoWriMo Total:

Date: 2009-09-01 02:50 pm (UTC)If I can shake enough free time by wrapping other more important things up by then, I may try a mini-NaNoWriMo in November working on my magnum opus. I am not wedded, however, to the idea of winding up with 50,000 perfectly sculpted words. I would be more than happy to wind up with however many well-sculpted words will make up a decent first draft of Part I.
However, if I were keeping count, I wouldn't be surprised if I typed 50,000 words in the course of it, just eliminating 10,000 or more of them along the way in the process of writing and editing. Really, someday I should send you a handwritten draft just so you see why I almost always type everything.

Eh. My hand-drafts are messy enough. I think I get the picture.

Date: 2009-09-01 05:19 pm (UTC)Actually, I mostly don't care about the word count, just the progress. I expect many if not most of the scenes comprising Part I to be relatively short. But I still may use NaNoWriMo and November as an excuse or jumping off point. That's my goal, anyway.
Like you, sometimes when I write by hand it's to get it down on paper, not because I think it's good or the best way to write it, and then fix it when I type. Most recently, I printed a story I had started in the middle, because it was easiest, and took it with me while cat sitting so I could write after thinking about how to start it while looking at the rest of it in printed form.
When I type a story from scratch, though, I try to fix it, at least to some extent, while typing. Then I fix it again when I continue because I usually go back, read, and revise what I've already written.

Date: 2009-09-01 11:18 pm (UTC)Last year NaNo didn't turn out well because I was working two jobs. Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat this year. Maybe a mini NaNo... or something...

Date: 2009-09-02 02:11 am (UTC)It is somewhat tempting to join you in this pre-insanity. I'm not sure whether I should be talking myself into or out of it....
