Yup. See, the white house has it's own turkey farm where they raise thanksgiving turkeys for the white house people to eat. Apparently they're special. And every year the president is supposed to pardon one of the turkeys, which basically means it gets sent to a turkey farm somewhere to live forever and ever until it dies of natural causes. Last year our not-so-smart president was making stupid jokes about it ("I see the turkey standing there, he looks a little nervous, doesn't he? He probably thinks he's going to have a press conference!"), but this year wasn't so bad. He pardoned two turkeys: Star and Stripe.
You can read up on this tradition here (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/11/turkey.html), because I am ever helpful.

>_>; bad president for poking fun at the cute turkey.
that's a nice tradition though... it's like Turkey Heaven! I bet there are books and movies about that... like Wallace and Gromit, y'know?
