For starters: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, [livejournal.com profile] endaemion~! You're the best Endy-pants ever.

In other news (not that Leilla isn't important, of course, but), I almost updated this journal from work. That's right. Work. It sounds weird, I know, because I haven't been really employed (in a sort of "go somewhere else other than your deks chair" way) since I graduated college back in May. But, no. Yes. I'm working. Sort of. Erm.

I was sleeping in today because I have the cold that won't die and I was feeling like crap last night, and that was wonderful. Around eleven o'clock, the phone rings. It's D., who is one of the representatives from the career agency I'm with. Apparently one of their people was taking the day off work for a really horrible reason -- again -- and so they are taking her off the job. They needed someone to fill in right away (for their sakes, I think, not the company's; I have a theory that the agency just wanted to maintain its reputation), and asked if I would mind. I didn't.

"Great," said D. "Be there between twelve and twelve-thirty. Here's the address."

Eek. ^.^ As it turns out, the company is about forty-five minutes away from my house, which isn't a big deal. It's also on the inner loop toward Baltimore, however, which is a bit of a big deal (although it wasn't today until the way home), and I still had to get dressed and everything. So I dressed like a demon and drove to Reisterstown. Where I promptly managed to misplace the road onto which I needed to turn.

Long story short, I eventually found the place. It's a spice company (and oh does it smell good~!), and I was greeted by the president, who showed me to my desk and told me to settle in, as one of the senior staff would be around to show me the place. She did. C. is wonderful -- it'll be fun to work with her.

Anyway, I saw the plant and the offices and was settled back into my desk with some pricing and research things to do. I did those for about two hours, then was called into a meeting with T., the aforementioned president. This was very brief, as a representative from my agency showed up shortly after we began, but he mentioned briefly that his wife (the VP) is a big writer and was looking to expand the company's written assets a bit. He also mentioned something about managing a weblog based on food and spices, although as soon as he mentioned it, we were cut off by the agency reps. Somewhere in here, I was shown the labeling room and asked if I wanted to learn how to work the machines -- I'm sure I will at some point. Um. C. eventually called me back and gave me a letter to edit and run through, then I went back and we went over some of the changes and we chatted. By then it was about four-fifteen and she had no more work for me, so she let me borrow a cookbook to peruse. The cookbook, to my surprise, was actually a good read; the writer was an Ethiopian adopted by Swedes who now has a huge restaurant in New York, and a while back he decided to travel around Africa and taste the foods from his "native country". I didn't read many of the recipes, but just the blurbs about them were pretty cool.

Anyway. I left at five and headed down the beltway (which sucked) and was caught in a storm as I went onto the interstate (which also sucked). Um. I eventually arrived home, and now I'm chilling out and filling out the timecard I need for my agency.

It may be a long-term position or it may be a temp thing, but at least I'm making money. And besides, the people are really cool. I think I'll like working there, at least for a while. (And tomorrow, I'm bringing a notebook or two with me. In case I have a slow time and can get some writing done. *coff*)

I want to go play a video game, but then I'll lose track of time and that would be a Bad Idea. Besides, there are certain people online to whom I wish to speak. >D And Supernatural is on tonight~! Le squee!
