good news--bad news

Good news:
I'm allowed to have a fish (in a small aquarium/bowl) as a pet at FSU. My parents say that as long as it all comes out of my money, they don't care, but they do want me to talk with my aunt, who has raised fish for many many years. I'd like a betta fish (aka: siamese fighting fish), preferably a male because they look cooler. They're more aggresive, though.
Anywho, betta's are among the easiest fish in the world to take care of. They breath with lungs and gills, they have a low metabolism (which means I don't have to clean the bowl too often), and they're pretty damn good at keeping alive in the oddest situations. They don't eat much and I'd only have to clean the bowl about once a week or so. There's a site offering a great deal on a bowl, snails (they clean stuff), an aquatic plant, gravel, a net, and the betta fish itself (the fish is of my own choice, of course--there are several different kinds of betta fish). I'd only have to buy my own fish food, which is about $2.00 or less at Walmart and Petsmart.
Bad news:
It doesn't look like FSU is going to allow me to keep my fencing gear with me in the dorm room. The campus police (rent-a-cops?) would want me to check it in with them at the station and take it out whenever I need it. There's a possibility I would be shooed away for letting anyone else play with it or for poking anyone with it, which pretty much takes away the whole point of fencing. I'd still keep my glove, mask, c.p.e. gear, the jacket, etcetera, but there would be the extra bother of checking the foil in and out of the station...
I could do that, of course, but there's no guarantees. However, there's also a possibility that the campus people will let me keep the foil and the rest of the gear in the dorm--provided the bag is kept locked and that it all stays in the locked closet when I'm not using it. That wouldn't be so bad, but it's a slim chance.
Good news:
I got an email from Brenna today. Shocking! I do believe she's finally stopped trying to become a hermit. Isn't that right, Brenna? ^_~
Bad news:
I've forgotten how to win minesweeper.
