I just check blackboard (online school source) and found out that my Composition professor, Doctor Gartner, took points off my essay because I used too many sources. WHAT THE FUCK??? The prompt said we should use as many sources as we needed. And I did. And I went ahead and did some extra work to make my essay that much better. And I get penalized for doing too much work???
Yeah, that's really going to help my work ethic. It's not like I stayed up until six this morning to write the damn thing or anything. No, of course not. It's not like I was almost late for his class because I was so tired that I fucking slept through the alarm. It's not like I wasn't working on that paper during every available moment I had.
Okay, so I didn't do that last one. *shrug*
Anyway, here was the grading scale: a 45-50 was a 90-100 percent. 40-44 was an 80-89. 35-39 was a 70-79 percent. 30-34 was a 60-69. 29 and below was a 59 percent and lower. I messed up on one of my citations and got a point taken off. Okay, that's fair. Then I made an assumption, which we had been warned about, so he took off two more points. That's fair too.
I got a 44 out of 50. Okay, three of those points I understand. But what about the other six? Know what those were taken off for? DOING TOO MUCH RESEARCH.
Allright, I bust my ass for this stupid essay and he takes points off because I did too much??? Yeah, I don't think so. Asshole. See if I bust my ass for his class ever again.
*fumes and stares at paper*

Date: 2003-09-29 11:36 am (UTC)Talk to him, maybe? Ask him what the hell is wrong with doing too much work? (Only, y'know, more politely than that.) Because, yeah, that's beyond ridiculous to penalize a student for going above and beyond what's expected.
