Driving with Andy.

My youngest brother, Andrew, is fifteen years old and he received his learner's permit about a month ago. This was a terrifying experience for all of us, but I (luckily) missed the worst bits of it. This doesn't mean I got to skip the whole ordeal, however...
I had a dentist appointment today, and so did my father and brother. I assumed my father, who likes to have control of the wheel, would be driving, given that he's like that and that I wasn't thinking. But no, the boy got into the driver's seat. It was... interesting. He seems to believe that there is a pattern to driving, and that he must press on the gas for five seconds and then the brake for two and so on. This makes for a very jerky -- and slow -- ride. I was thrilled when the car went over twenty miles per hour.
The dentist is approximately ten minutes away from my house, making it easily the closest convenience in the area. (The appointment was fine, by the by.) That was no problem; the drive took about fifteen minutes instead of ten. Whatever.
But the ride home...
It took Andy fifteen minutes, again, to drive from the dentist back to the road. It was lurchy and, eventually, my father became frustrated and told Andy not to touch the brake unless he had to stop. Andy, being Andy, took that far too literally... And although he did hit the brake so he could stop the car and turn it into our development, he did so far too late and ended up missing the turn.
To. Our. Own. Street.
Our fifteen minute drive back from the dentist took thirty-six minutes, and yes, I did count it. There is no easy-easy way to turn around on that road (94), so we had Andy drive to a street and double back, so we actually ended up back at the dentist's office (not true; we were actually about five minutes away from the dentist's office when he turned back onto 94) and hade to make the same trip all over again. >.<
That was my adventure with the boy. The end.
Oh, happy birthday,
jinsai. ^_^
