Good morning, today! It's... Well, I went to back with a glass of wine in me, so I'm pretty much guaranteed to have a good day today, right? I figure that's decent logic. (Besides, [livejournal.com profile] kloos411 also had a glass of wine, and I figure she could use a good day. You can do it, K!)

[livejournal.com profile] domacatrix is holding out on me. I'm reasonably okay with that. But I want updates as to her current situation, darnit, and she is apparently not in a position to provide them. This makes me cry cry cry. Cry 'til the Egg Man comes.

...maybe I should go to bed with wine more often. I don't think the wine is why my brain is all muddled this morning (I think that's the general lack of sleep; lights didn't go out until well after one o'clock), but I'm willing to pin it on the wine. It makes my psyche far more willing to have a repeat performance at a later date.

NaNoWriMo is around the corner, and I still haven't a clue what I want to write! I'm really trying to decide between a semi-serious thing or a not-at-all-serious zombie thing. Because zombies kick ass, duh. In any case, it's a difficult decision... which I probably won't make until well after the November first start date. Per usual. (Whoops.)

Focus.

I started drafting a character sketch for my main character for NaNoWriMo, but I'm having problems figuring out what I want to happen to her, haha.

All I know is that my main character is a guy (all my characters have been male lately. Ugh. This has to stop). We still have time to figure things out, though, so no worries (yet)!

Zombies, obviously. Not-at-all-serious is so much easier to write in a month. ;)

(Hi, I friended you because you're doing NaNo, and I don't have nearly enough people on my flist doing NaNo. Hope that's okay?)

Hmm. True, but I would want to be very careful with my zombiesm. This would require extensive research and planning -- things I'm willing to do, but may not get around to doing until, say, November. ^_~

"I am the egg man, they are the egg men.
I am the walrus! Goo goo gajoob."

Zombie books are selling well lately. Book purchases like that are sometimes seasonal, but this summer, zombie reading was quite popular.

From: [identity profile] kageotogi.livejournal.com
Hehe. I was actually quoting Pink Flamingos, but I'm all about the walrus, too. (Juba juba juba...)

Hm. I'd noticed a sudden re-population in the zombie market, which means I missed the boat... but will be prepared for when the next zombie market comes around! I've always preferred zombies to vampires anyway; they're much creepier.

From: [identity profile] imayb1.livejournal.com
Zombies are creepier, yes, but vampires can be sexy or creepy. Admittedly, the vampires which most resemble zombies are creepiest.

You don't think the Nemesis (see icon) is sexy?

Also, zombies have more potential for a post-apocalyptic "we must repopulate the planet!" romance, which (if done correctly) could be delightfully sexy. Also, it has the potential for backstabbing, betrayal, and all the things that make a good drama.

So what's your vote? ^_~ Serious or zombie?

Date: 2007-10-10 07:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] imayb1.livejournal.com
Oh, I definitely vote for zombies over serious. No, I do not find Nemesis sexy.

I've seen vampires used as "we must repopulate the planet!" excuses, but I never felt they pulled it off well. After all, vampires wouldn't want to hunt their food supply into extinction. Any story could potentially include backstabbing and betrayal; as you pointed out, those elements make a good drama.

I was chatting with DC last night and we were discussing the values of killing off main characters, especially if they are beloved ones. We concluded the main character should struggle to get to the conclusion and lose something important in the process.

The Nemesis is hot. C'mon. Look at that pretty face. Look at it!

I've always wondered about that, too. Why would vampires wipe out humanity? They're supposed to be smarter than that. Zombies, though. Well, zombies are sort of dumb by definition. Brainless hordes would have no issue with wiping out a planet.

A good point! I think I agree with the two of you.

Nemesis is too teethy, like Julia Roberts teethy. ::Shudder::

Well, I could understand vampires cultivating very sheep-like humans or sub-human mutants, and then wiping out humanity in order to make life easier on themselves. I could also see the possibility of a vampire-hating vampire trying to destroy vampires by killing all the humans, but that'd have to be a seriously cracked individual (or group).

Date: 2007-10-10 07:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kageotogi.livejournal.com
...now I'm going to think of Julia Roberts every time I see the Nemesis. I'm not sure how I feel about that (although I can't help but find it appropriate).

Ooh, human farms! Hell, we do that to animals; it might be interesting to watch things go on its head. The insurgents would be delicious.

That would be a very twisted vampire. I quite like it.

From: [identity profile] imayb1.livejournal.com
You could write about all those elements and zombies, too!

Date: 2007-10-10 07:42 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kageotogi.livejournal.com
Maybe I can even throw Julia Roberts into the mix.

The only stipulation I have regarding the zombie novel is that the title has to be "Second-hand Flowers" (to jazz things up a bit, some other NaNo-ers and I decided we had to include some similar elements -- such as the title). I can make it work, I'm sure, but it seems like a weird title for a zombie novel!

From: [identity profile] imayb1.livejournal.com
It does sound a bit weird for a zombie novel. Maybe you could dump flowery perfume on the zombies, or the insurgents could hide out in a flower shop to disguise their scent and life force energy?

If your setting was in California, you could include a bunch of Hollywood folks as zombies!

Date: 2007-10-10 07:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kageotogi.livejournal.com
Hm. Maybe. I'll have to think about it; there's got to be a way to work that in there. (Dumping flowery perfume on the zombies...? That just makes me think of the Munchkin. ^^)

Ooh. Better and better!

From: [identity profile] imayb1.livejournal.com
LOL!

I wonder if Hollywood's undead would be significantly prettier than other places undead, or if all that plastic surgery would make their skin fall off faster or just adhere to their bones and leave them very skeletal looking?

From: [identity profile] kageotogi.livejournal.com
I... don't know. Hm. I wonder if the silicon and various other implants, injections, etcetera would work posthumously, or if zombie flesh is just alive enough that it still operates as intended. I should definitely check out the after-death aspects, though; I'm sure there's a medical text or two in my workplace that'll mention it.

I'll let you know. >D

I've always liked this reference on death and deterioration, but that doesn't really answer the question of plastic surgery and zombies. Good luck!

White~! I prefer white. ^^ I think last night's bottle was a Chardonnay, but usually I like the sweeter wines -- Chenin Blanc is my favorite, and Riesling is good, too.

Northern Michigan produces some kick-ass Rieslings. I really enjoy the "late harvest" and "sweet harvest" Rieslings of Chateau Grand Traverse and Chateau Chantal.

Ah, but I like my wine sweet. It's hard to find good red wine that is also sweet.

Um, I posted about it, so you can stop crying.

I think if you don't write a zombie novel, you will never be at peace.
And the whole time you are writing a serious novel, if that' swhat you choose to do, you will be wondering what would have happened in the zombie novel and it will hinder you.
:)
