It's hot in Baltimore.

Yesterday was the hottest day so far of the summer (with today coming in as a close second, apparently), and my air conditioning stopped working.
You may remember my expressing some concerns regarding my air conditioning unit and then shrugging it off on my own incompetence, but no. As it turns out, it's actually not working. The fan works -- I can hear it -- but the actual compressing-thingy isn't moving. Like, at all. So that's upsetting.
There are a few things I'm going to try when I get home (I escaped to my parents' house shortly after I realized I was going to die of heat), and then I'll see about calling someone to come out and fix it while I'm in Arizona (if my mother concedes to drive aaaaaaall the way to the house. Again. I should buy her flowers or something as a thank-you for sitting around waiting for my repairmen/install guys all the time). And if any of you have other suggestions for things I can try myself before calling the repairman, please do let me know!
I leave for Arizona tomorrow. Might be fun.

Date: 2009-08-11 03:00 pm (UTC)My friend's whole unit went out a month ago and she said if you replace it with units with a certain seer rating etc that you can get a tax credit this year so if the worst happens you can at least explore that :/
Hope it's an easy fix!

Date: 2009-08-11 03:08 pm (UTC)...no pun intended.
I'm all about tax credits. Hopefully it won't come to that (I had a power outage shortly before the A/C stopped working, so I'm going to play around and see if that has something to do with it -- maybe a fuse tripped or something), but if it does, at least I can try for some tax credit. I'm already getting credit for the house purchase, so it can't be all bad. ;)

Date: 2009-08-11 03:11 pm (UTC)Are we talking room air conditioners or, as I suspect, central air? Is there any possibility of making a claim against any promises made at the closing? It seems like rather suspicious timing for it to conk out. Maybe it was already on its last legs.
At least in Arizona your hotel will be required to provide you with a working air conditioner and you can change rooms if they don't! That happened to me once in SC. :)
Hang in there! ♥ I hope the icon makes you feel better. Remember, when in doubt, hydrate, although I wouldn't advise you to take your shirt off while doing it like Eiri did.

Date: 2009-08-11 03:38 pm (UTC)Eh. I can't see the claim against the seller working in my favor, really, as the seller wouldn't have known about the A/C (they'd never lived in the house; they just bought it from the bank and did a complete renovation). I could try, I guess, but it just seems like more hassle than it's worth. I might as well fix (or replace) the unit and go from there, if it comes to that.
By the time I'm back from Arizona, the heat should be done with in Baltimore (I hope!), so that's at least a stroke of luck~
