The kittens' vet visit went very well. I absolutely adore their vet; she's professional and very obviously cares about the animals she treats, and the kittens were only a little put out by her prodding at them. Other than Shawn freaking out when the attendants went to draw blood for his FeLV test (Gus was an angel for it, and I had a good laugh over that one) and finding out that the boys are a little tubby (or at least going through a 'fat phase', which I also find funny), everything went well. They need to get a second round of shots next month, but I don't think that'll be an issue. Then, the month after that, we get to the neutering! They're already so excited.

There was also a flute concert. That was about what I expected. For said concert (or, rather, for the reception that followed) I made a cake and a blueberry cobbler-esque thing. The cake is pretty much gone. The cobbler... Well, I neglected to bring a spoon with which to serve the cobbler, and thus only a little was consumed. However, this is no terrible thing; I will have cobbler for a month and very likely hit 50,000 pounds around the same time my novel hits 50,000 words.

It's a good thing.

Speaking of NaNoWriMo, things are... going. I'm barely at par for my solo project (I hit 15k last night) and not as far ahead as I'd like to be. I would like to hit 18k tonight but I get the feeling I'll be lucky to get anywhere near 17k. We'll see. And aside from that, I have fic idea. Why does fic idea always come during NaNo, when I don't really have time to write it?

Whaaaaatevs. I'll be cruising by [livejournal.com profile] punctuates's place tonight to drop off some yarn and to perhaps pick up some delicious chili spaghet (which is, if you aren't aware, the Best Meal Ever). Post that, my plans consist of DwtS (Team Donny! Team Kelly! Everyone else can fall on their faces!), trying to knit around the kittens, and working on NaNoWriMo. Big surprise there.

How was your weekend?

Fic ideas coming during NaNoWriMo are probably like the itches I get when I have to lie completely still, like when I'm having an MRI or x-ray done or am at the dentist's.

In other news: apparently what is afflicting my computer is another virus that attacked the registry and I've lost all my e-mails along with e-mail access. Oh joy. Since I'm not sure when the computer will be operational, I've asked for an extension on [livejournal.com profile] 30_kisses (I'd normally have to post something by the end of this month), which will give me another two months. I finished a draft of a non-arc story, found out that there was a way to heighten the drama and tie it to something that happened in canon, and am now rewriting/revising it.

Your kittehs are far better behaved at the vet's than our kittehs. Think you could post the chili spaghetti recipe?

Probably. Fic itches are terribly timed.

I cannot post the recipe for chili spaghet (not spaghetti -- very different things) for two reasons. First, it is not my recipe. Second, it is a very closely guarded secret held by [livejournal.com profile] punctuates and her family. That recipe will go to the grave with them.

No joke.

Hee - I didn't realize it was a proprietary recipe, and I took the "spaghet" to be a nickname. Can you give us a general idea of what it is, like what the obvious ingredients are?

I really can't (though I can tell you it vaguely resembles Cincinnati Chili, although only in the most basic sense of things). Just rest assured that it's delicious. ♥

Wow. You make it out like we're psychos that knife anyone that comes near our family recipe. Anyway, I think it's mostly a blood thing--my aunts, related by marriage, can't seem to get it right.

[livejournal.com profile] lawless523, I'm sorry I can't share the recipe. I promised my mother, and you know how that goes.

The flavor you are most likely imagining--some sort of amalgamation of chili and spaghetti (alchemy gone wrong!)--is entirely incorrect. It is not really a flavor one can really describe except for in the vague construct of "awesome".

There used to be packets of seasonings that you could buy at the grocers--I believe that you can even purchase it on Amazon; just look for Cincinnati Chili--that will get you close if you're really interested.

This one thing I will share: if a recipe tells you to brown the meat in a skillet beforehand, then the recipe is giving you poor advice.

In terms of NaNo, my weekend was very, very unproductive. Haha, damn. I'm behind and need to catch up, but I'm still going to try and write 2,000 words every night and then I'll probably write my ass off over Thanksgiving break. We'll see about that.

What about Team Dmitry should be shirtless more often and Team Derek should stop slicking his hair back because tousled hair is awesome? Because I'm totally in favor of that. (Okay, so I can be a bit shallow.)

But yeah. I'm Team Kelly. :D

You're blogging about your cats a lot. I think it's time you got a man. We're good for things like eating the cobbler.

Actually, I would just like some cobbler...

It's not my fault the cats are more interesting than most everything else I'm doing these days. ^^

The cobbler is far too good to share. My cobbler. Nyah.

Yeah, but what if you make spoon bread instead? What. if. you. make. spoon. bread. in. stead. question. mark.

Don't be ridiculous. I'm not even sure I know how to make spoon bread.
