Today was neurology day! Babeh Kitteh and I headed out early this afternoon after a ten minute struggle to get him into the carrier (Other Kitteh was all excited. He hopped right in and looked at me like "So where are we going? :D", and Babeh Kitteh ran the other way). The neurologist was very nice, though Babeh Kitteh wasn't too enthused about being poked and prodded and whatnot. Ah, well.

In short, all the tests came back normal -- so there's nothing obviously wrong, neurologically. He recommended putting Gus on phenobarbital. I checked in with my regular vet, who agreed that that would be her way, too, so I put in an order, picked it up an hour later, and then bought a crapload of canned cat food (the stuff is a liquid, and it's flavored -- I got tuna flavor -- so that it can be easily hidden in regular cat food and there's not as much chance of them spitting it out). I need to make another appointment for him in three weeks so they can check and make sure everything is going okay (that the dosage isn't too high or anything), but for now that's all. Hopefully this will do the trick.

And, personally, I hope we can eventually wean him off the stuff. This medication needs to be administered every twelve hours, and I'm selfishly already considering how that will impact me. Selfish selfish selfish.

I've so got nothing else to talk about right now. I'll try to be more entertaining in the future.

I can hardly call you selfish for not wanting to give the kitteh meds every twelve hours for the next . . . forever, when I don't even want to take my own medicine once a day for an indefinite period of time. :p

In all seriousness, though, I am glad that the neuro had a med suggestion for kitteh, and here's hoping it calms down the seizures!

Hopefully it will stop the seizures entirely. ♥ The good news is that it's incredibly easy to get him to take it!

They did! Now I just have to remember to medicate the kitty every day and I'm set.

I hope things work out and the meds end the seizures.

De Soto cat says hello. And I sent you an e-mail.

They should at least lessen them, if nothing else. Considering that his seizures are usually not severe, I think it'll do a good job of repressing them.

I got your email. Also, I am very behind on betas for you and I apologize; as I'm sure you can understand, the internet (and, subsequently, any and all documents on my harddrive or email inbox) have not been a priority lately. I'll try to get those back out to you soon, though.

I couldn't figure a way of putting it before that didn't sound condescending, but between kitteh seizures, work, and your grandmother's birthday party, I figured that kind of stuff was lower on your priority list.

I'm working on convincing Misty, the stubborn, hard-headed kitty we inherited, that it's not acceptable to use the computer desk as a bed because she knocks stuff off of it. Lots of stuff. :) I don't have an icon of her -- she stubbornly stayed in the basement or ran away when I was trying to take kitty pictures -- so have an icon of another stubborn cat. Sometimes 'stubborn' and 'cat' are synonymous.

every twelve hours is a lot, i don't blame you for not wanting to deal with it forever. then again this is coming from someone who can only manage to remember to take vitamins like twice a week. oops. but i'm glad the neurologist helped. ♥

Hee. ♥ Every twelve hours is better than it could have been (someone I know, for instance, has to medicate every six hours; there's no way I could do that), and maybe at some point I can cut it back to once a day. That would be pretty swanktastic.

I think The Black Dog is on phenobarbitol for her seizures. And I think (since it is a human medication) that the SIL gets it from the regular human pharmacy because it is cheaper than going through the veterinarian pharmacy.

Just a thought!
