Earthquakes, hurricanes, and tropical storms, oh my!

So my city is under a tropical storm warning today. This is not what I want to talk about, because I'm seriously tired of hearing about it and I'm sure you all are, too. But I did want to share this:

Today I went out for lunch and then followed that two-hour outing up with a trip to the Target, the comic book store, a drug store, and a liquor store. The restaurant where I ate lunch? Deserted, excepting the employees, me and my companion, and one other family. The Target? Nearly deserted. The comic book and drug store? The employee(s) (one in the comic book store, two in the drug store) and I were it. The liquor store? PACKED. It was like the entire city had descended upon the store all at once.

So it's at least good to know that we have our priorities straight, right? Right.

Mr. L tried going to the grocery store this morning but gave up. It was mobbed.

According to another LJ friend who lives in Baltimore, it's not likely to get hit hard because the existence of the Eastern Shore tends to protect it.

Yep. We have a flash flood warning (as of about five minutes ago), but I think the only people in the city who need to worry about it are the ones down by the waterfront... who mostly all live in highrises, so it shouldn't be a huge deal. I remain totally unconcerned and 100% exasperated with all the people nearby who are Freaking the Fuck Out over it.

I was thinking about you :) made it through just fine here from the hurricane and yeah it is turning out to be a non event except for the people on the coast.

I also apparently was thinking about you last night too because i had a dream about you O_o (that i was asking you to come be my roommate while we were both in grad school which is all sorts of silliness XD)

I'm glad you made it through. <3 I meant to email you and make sure you were out of the path of the storm, but then completely neglected to do so. :)

Are tropical storms rare in the US?

I know my country gets hits by several every year...

It depends on geography, really. The southern eastern coast gets a number of them. My end of the coast (about mid-eastern coast) gets a handful, but all minor. The northeast side doesn't get many at all.
